My real loves in life are clay and hugs! I adore observing and experiencing people of all ages, expressing their love, acceptance, protection, comfort and appreciation of each other, by wrapping their arms round one another in a simple embrace.
I studied Art as part of my Education Degree at Rolle College in Exmouth in the mid 80s. From there my first sculpture emerged from a photograph I had taken, of an intense emotional hold between two close friends. I discovered a love of the process of experimenting with clay and exploring how to best express emotions with such a rough medium. I began to exhibit with friends in East Budleigh, Devon in 2008 and have taken up a variety of opportunities to exhibit in galleries in Devon and London ever since.
I relocated from glorious Devon last year to settle in Gloucestershire, where I’m beginning to dedicate time to building sculptures again and network with local like-minded artists, with a view to exhibiting again soon.
All these years later I still get excited when starting a new piece! I have occasional seasons when I’m inspired to make solitary figures and figurative pieces, but my main passion is to make sculptures that enable people to receive comfort and protection.
My desire is to explore how to convey the beauty of being wrapped in the arms of another trusted human being through each sculpture I create. My wish is that you, the viewer, ‘sense what it feels like to hold or be held.’ I really hope you receive a warm hug as you take a look through my website…
